Developing your own Iconic Style sensibility

We all have our own sense of style, we just have to have the courage to fully express it and develop it. Here are a few things to consider, in order to bring out your own inner style Icon.

1. Accept yourself. Your body is really magnificent. Just think about how much your body can do! Go look at yourself in the mirror and take a good long look at yourself. You are alive. You are strong. You are unique! No-one is quite like you! I know women often want to improve their bodies, but even if you want to lose or gain weight, tone up or whatever, you need to accept it for what it is right now, in order to start looking your best!

2. Love yourself. Have you ever seen a woman who dressed her kids to the nines, while she looked a mess? That's because she loves her kids so much and has kind of forgotten about herself. I want you to dress yourself like a loving mama. Close your eyes and step outside of yourself for a minute. How would you dress this body if it belonged to a woman you loved deeply? Dress yourself that way.

3. Do some work and understand your body. Are you pear shaped, heavy on top, thick in the middle or thighs or what have you? What are your best features? Do you have legs to die for? Hips and curves that have their own curves? What are your assets? Take a minute and make a mental list of them all.

4. Understand the power of style. "Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.” —Vivienne Westwood. Learn about style and identify what you like. Look at magazines, style blogs, shows etcetera. You are not doing it so someone else can tell you what to like but so you can truly begin to identify what you like. Train your eye to recognize the aesthetic that speaks to you.

5. Ask yourself and answer the question, what kind of life do I want? Then ask yourself, the woman in that life, what would she wear?

6. Wear it fearlessly. Period!
